INTONATION



Intonation is the melody or music of a language. It refers to the way the voice rises and falls as we speak.

Rising Intonation


- Use it at the end of a sentence when you ask yes-no questions.

- Use it when naming items on a list or when offering choices, except for the last item or choice.

Examples: 

Are you studying?
Do you want some?
Are you kidding me?
Did you come yesterday?


Falling Intonation



- Use it with statements and commands.

- Use it when wh- questions. (what, when, why, where, how, who, and which)

Examples:

I'm going to school.
Bring  me the book.
I'll call you later.
Give me the phone.
